Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy

Ayurveda is the healing science from ancient India, that has been practiced for over 5000 years. Its literal translation means “the Science of Life” and it is the oldest holistic healing system that is still practiced today.  It is more that just a healing science, it is a science of right-living that teaches us how to live harmoniously in balance with our own dosha constitution, with society, with nature and with the universal consciousness.

Ayurveda is closely connected to Yoga, as it is the yogic medicinal system with its foundation based on the same principles and philosophy as Yoga. Ayurveda keeps the body healthy in preparation for the unfolding of the self and inner exploration in Yoga. By combining the two, as done traditionally for thousands of years, we begin to unravel the challenges that we experience and develop the optimal environment (internally and externally) for health and well being.

The 3 Doshas

The three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are the three governing biological energies that regulate and control the functions of the body and the mind. They are comprised of the 5 elements which are our fundamental building blocks. Vata is comprised of the elements Ether and Air, Pitta is comprised of the elements Fire and Water, and Kapha is Water and Earth. Each of the doshas has its own set of characteristic and tendencies that are directly reflective of the elements that it is made of. By determining our natural tendencies, we can become more connected and more in balance with ourselves and the world around us.

Prakruti

Each of us are born with our very own inborn constitution that is determined upon conception. It is a very individual and unique composition, with no two alike. This individualized composition is comprised of a balance of the 5 elements determining our  Prakruti, or inborn constitution. This becomes our default or baseline. When we deviate from the is baseline, we become imbalanced.

Vikruti

As we experience our daily lives, we may deviate from our baseline or innate nature due to many different factors in our lives. This becomes our imbalanced state, that brings with it many new and unwanted  functions of the body and mind. There may be subtle changes or there can be drastic changes, depending on the severity of the imbalance and the causes. Once we establish our Prakruti and Vikruti, we can then work towards balance by using and incorporating the knowledge and wisdom of these two ancient traditions.

Yoga and Ayurveda

Once we have determined the Prakruti and Vikruti, we can then implement a individualized plan to work towards this balancing of governing energies in the body and mind, helping us clear the path to self-realization and liberation. This plan includes life-style decisions that best suits your imbalance as well as a yoga practices and poses that will help to balance out the doshas.

Initial Consultation

We will do a thorough review of your default doshic constitution, and your current doshic imbalance or aggravation. Initial recommendations will be offered based on the information gathered to help you find your way back to balance. If you wish to pursue a Ayurvedic Yoga practice, a full customized yoga practiced will be devised after the consultation and will be practiced in your first Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy Session.

Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy Session

After determining your default doshic constitution and doshic imbalance in the consultation, we begin to explore and work on balancing the doshic imbalance with a customized yoga practice and lifestyle recommendations.

Doshic Imbalance Evaluation

This is a great opportunity to determine and understand the changes we may be experiencing since the last evaluation. This will help in making adjustments to your current yoga practice and lifestyle choices that will help bring you back into balance.
